Q: Why the group size of 8-20 girls? What if we have fewer or more?

A: We prefer a minimum of 8 girls and limit each group to a maximum of 20 girls. The minimum is based upon curriculum considerations. Because much of our the lesson plan is related to team building and group dynamics, fewer than 8 girls may make it difficult to provide the experience we seek to offer to the girls. Facilitating more than 20 girls would make it difficult to establish the group rapport and the depth of community we are seeking. If a site has more than 32 girls who want to participate, GOTR Ò of Denver can run "two" programs at the same site, as long as there is the appropriate number of coaches available.
Q: When does the program start and end?

A: We currently have two sessions of GOTR each year,
  • Fall Session
    • Beginning the first week of September through mid-November
    • Runs for eight to ten weeks - meeting twice a week
    • To begin a session in the Fall, planning should begin late spring and be finalized by August 31st
  • Spring Session
    • Beginning early to mid-March through early June
    • Runs for ten to eight weeks - meeting twice a week
    • To begin a session in the Spring, planning should begin late fall and be finalized by February 28th
Q: What is the cost of the program?

A: The cost at a particular site is determined by a sliding scale fee, based upon area demographics, as well as the availability and cost of other programs. Our current cost to deliver the program is $165 per girl. However, no girl pays that much and all are subsidized to some extent because of our organizational fundraising efforts. Our intention is to offer the GOTR program to as many girls as possible and we don't want fees to prohibit participation!
Q: What is included in the price of the program?

A: Included in the fee price are:
  • the 16 to 20 one-hour lessons conducted by a certified GOTR coach;
  • lesson handouts;
  • a GOTR t-shirt;
  • GOTR support for any participation in a 5k race;
  • End of season certificates and awards;
  • GOTR Coach training fees;
  • Fees for liability insurance;
  • Fees to our national program (required by the national office);
  • All administrative assistance to coaches, sites, girls and parents.
Q: What if a girl is unable to pay the program fee?

A: GOTR of Denver is aware that we serve a wide range of girls. In the event that a girl is unable to afford the cost for the program, we will do everything we can to offer scholarships to those in need. Our ability to do so is limited by our capacity to raise funds.
Q: Can we choose a different 5K Run for our end of season race?

A: One of the values that GOTR promotes is a sense of community. A big part of participating in GOTR of Denver is the sense of community that comes from attending a race with all the sister sites – imagine the impact on a young girl when she realizes that there are GOTR everywhere! In addition, on race day, GOTR of Denver provides adult women as race guides for the girls. These volunteers act as cheerleaders for the girls, guiding them throughout the race and cheering the girls on. We are unable to provide this important part of the race experience if a site doesn't attend the selected race.
