Girls on the Run of the Rockies cannot survive without the help and dedication of volunteers. There are a number of opportunities from coaching, coordinating and planning of the Girls on the Run 5K and much more. Click on the opportunities below to learn more. Coaching Special Events 5K Planning Committee
Upcoming volunteer needs:

This team is charged with planning, staffing and executing our annual Sneaker Soiree fundraising event. The event is a live and silent auction gala. Team members help with every event detail including invitations, auction items, marketing and much more.
Goals:
- To raise at least $10,000 in 2011.
- Raise attendance at annual fundraiser.
Time Commitment:
- Attend committee meetings (monthly or every other month)
- Attendance at special events
- Work on assignments independently
Requirements:
- Well-organized, social, and enjoy planning parties.
- Attendance at planning meetings
- Attendance at most events
- Ability and desire to solicit donations, increase event attendance and maximize your own connections.
- Experience or desire to learn about planning events.
- Willingness to follow through on short and long term assignments.
- Creative, fun and enjoy working with others.
Program Site Coordinator
You will be assigned one or two schools to serve as the school site coordinator. You will serve as the liason between the school and coaches, help market the program to students, distribute and collect registration materials, help in ongoing communications with participants/parents.
Goals:
- Serve as main contact for site school.
- Market program through school's communication tools (i.e. Friday folders, website, bulletin boards)
- Distribute and collect all registration materials.
- Contact site coaches and help orientate them prior to program start.
Time Commitment:
- One month prior to start of program
- Extra time for individual assignments
Requirements:
- Creative and detail oriented!
- Organized and good communications skills
COACHING
GOTR Denver relies on volunteer coaches to help administer our programs. Coaching is a big commitment – 10 to 12 weeks per session, for one hour, twice a week. Besides being role models of self-esteem and healthy living, coaches must be available after-school hours for lessons, attend a GOTR coaches training and must be certified in CPR and first aid. Coaches work directly with the 3 rd – 5 th or 6 th – 8 th graders, teaching them healthy habits and training them for the big 5K race. Coaches are also responsible for maintaining communications with their site contact and girls as needed.
Goals:
- Help build self-esteem and healthy living attitude in program participants by following the GOTR curriculum.
- Create fun, uplifting atmosphere to inspire girls to enjoy running and program.
Time Commitment:
- Attend one-day coaches training.
- Become CPR and first aid certified (on your own time)
- Attend pre-season coaches meeting (1.5 hours)
- Coaching – 10 to 12 weeks, twice a week for 1 hour each day.
- Race day (approx. 3 hours)
Requirements:
- Excellent role model for self-esteem and healthy living.
- Desire to work with girls ages 8 – 13.
- Dependable, capable and responsible with sound decision making skills.
- Organized and able to meet administrative deadlines.
- Willing to lead in a spirited and fun style – able to laugh at yourself.
- Communicate well with other coaches and girls.
- Flexible schedule (most programs start between 3:30 and 5:30 )
- Willing to undergo background check.

5K RACE PLANNING COMMITTEE
This group has the fun job of planning the inaugural Girls on the Run 5K run/walk planned for May 2011. Members will be responsible for all aspects of planning a 5K with the support of a race event company. See this event from start to finish. Lots of area to help from corporate sponsorships and event planning to advertising and promotion to race day registration and activities. This committee has already started planning, so get involved now!
Goals:
- To create, plan and execute a Girls on the Run 5K in May 2011.
- Identify and secure corporate sponsors.
- Deliver a fun, well-attend event.
Time Commitment:
- Attend race planning meetings (1 per month, approx.)
- Race day!
- Time for individual assignments
Requirements:
- Familiar with how races are run.
- Well organized and able to meet project deadlines.
- Able to take a project and run with it.
- Willing or desire to work on various aspects of race planning:
- Sponsorships
- Volunteers
- Promotion, PR and Advertising
- Event Day Coordination
- Registration Coordinator
- Signage and race bibs/packets
- Leadership skills and ability to see the big picture.
